Food itinerary: Plateau Mont-Royal East

Mont-Royal Avenue

Indulge in Plateau Mont-Royal East’s cafés, bakeries, restaurants and other gourmet hot spots. Have fun being a tourist in your own city!

Plateau Mont-Royal Est

Departure point: Mont-Royal métro station

Distance: 4.2 kilometres

Suggestions d’endroits où grignoter : Parc Baldwin, Parc Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent, as well as the street furniture on Mont-Royal Avenue.

Moineau Masqué

912 Marie-Anne Street | website

Go to Le Moineau Masqué to immerse yourself in the quintessential Plateau Mont-Royal ambiance. This sweet little café is the epitome of a neighbourhood nook!

What to order: A steaming hot coffee or a refreshing smoothie, whatever your heart desires!

Boulangerie Mr.Pinchot

4354 De Brébeuf Street | website

With your coffee (or smoothie) to go, head down Marie-Anne Street for a few minutes then stop for a short croissant break at Boulangerie Mr. Pinchot. This Plateau Mont-Royal institution was taken over by a lovely young couple in 2020 who love taking time to chat with their patrons.

What to order: A light and flaky croissant – you need to room for more treats down the road!

Le Rouge Gorge

ÔBreton or Rouge Gorge

1201a Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

1234 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

Where will your cravings lead you? To a stop at ÔBreton, a Breton-style creperie, for a crêpe to go, or would you prefer a glass of red at Rouge Gorge? If you’re a wine lover, you’ll probably go for the latter; basking on its sunny terrasse as you leisurely sip a glass of natural wine sounds so good…

What to order: Chez ÔBreton, of course, a buttery galette or crêpe to go. At Rouge Gorge, the seasoned team will be able to suggest the perfect pick based on your preferences.

Bleu et Persillé, fromagerie de quartier

Fromagerie Bleu & Persillé

1475 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

Over the years, the Bleu et Persillé cheese shop has become a Mont-Royal Avenue must. In addition to its wide range of cheeses from Québec and afar, foodies love browsing its shelves for delicious gourmet finds as well as the tasty charcuterie selection, sliced on the spot, the way you want.

What to order: A platter of cheeses and charcuterie to share. If you have a sealable bag, a few soft-ripened cheeses and delicious cured meats to take home.

Top Discount

1678 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

If Québecers don’t know about this French chain, the opposite can be said for the French, who cross the city to do their grocery shopping here to buy an array of products that remind them of their homeland. From French chips to cookies, curious appetites will definitely want to check it out.

What to order: Whatever tempts your taste buds.

Chinoiseries et Dumplings

4507 Chabot Street | website

This little gem of a restaurant is one of the neighbourhood’s best-kept secrets and its soft, savoury dumplings keep people coming back for more. You can order a bag of frozen dumplings to go and/or a few freshly-made to gobble as you stroll.

What to order: The pork/bok choy/peanut dumpling or the pork/shrimp, chicken/bok choy and pork/bok choy trio.

Crémy or Croissant Croissant

2202 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

2270 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

To end your day on a sweet note, you can either pick up some delicious gourmet doughnuts from Crémy or a divine little treat made of puffed pastry from Croissant Croissant. Leafy Parc Baldwin, at the corner of Fullum Street, is an excellent spot to savour your toothsome treats.

What to order: A half-dozen doughnuts from Crémy. My favourites are the Boston, pistachio and cherry, maple crème brulée and apple doughnut, the roue de truck (truck wheel) and the doughnut of the month. If you decide to wrap up your day at Croissant Croissant, you’ll love sinking your teeth into the pastry of the day, often made from in-season fruit.

Café Cardynal or Café Rico

1558 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

1207 Du Mont-Royal Avenue East | website

On the way back, if a coffee would really hit the spot, then I’d recommend Café Cardynal for fans of “third wave” coffee or Café Rico for a more classic but spot-on, aromatic blend.

Other restaurant suggestions for take-out or drinks: Chez Victoire, Maison Publique, Rouge Gorge, India Rosa, La Distillerie.
