Symphonic Verdun with OM al fresco
Festivals and events Leisure activities Music Outdoor Pôle des Rapides
To celebrate Verdun’s 150th anniversary, the Orchestre Métropolitain (OM ) will be at West-Vancouver Park on Nuns’ Island, with conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, for a major free outdoor concert. The evening’s program, starting with composer Louise Farrenc’s "Overture No. 2", will feature Mendelssohn’s "Symphony No. 4 Italian" as its pièce de résistance. Infused with happiness and a sense of closeness to nature, this dance-like, lyrical work is ideal for this outdoor concert. Stravinsky's orchestral suite "The Firebird" adds a dose of energy to the program, while Augusta Holmès' interlude "La nuit et l'amour" adds a touch of poetry and dreaminess, and the music of Quebec's Hector Gratton gets our toes tapping with "Dansons le carcaillou".
