Chanel Cheiban + Mara Dupas

Double Bill: Choreographer and performer Chanel Cheiban invites the audience into her family living room to witness the birth of a dance unique to her, defining movements that navigate from oriental traditions to the contemporary world. Accompanied by three musicians playing melodies that have captured Arab hearts, she becomes one with her ancestors and those around her, letting the dance consume and entrance her. Mara Dupas defies the audience’s expectations, choosing what to reveal and what to conceal. Using fluid, undulating movements, the artist explores her relationship with her body, which reflects the clash between dominant Western beauty standards and her African descent.
