Animism Today - Koomuatuk Sapa Curley
Festivals and events Leisure activities Arts History Indoor Downtown Montréal
Koomuatuk Sapa Curley's "Animism Today" exhibition brings together a new series of stone sculptures. In his work, Curley evokes the Inuit belief that every being and every object possesses a spirit to which all things are interconnected. Through the act of carving stone, he rekindles memories of the land and of time spent at his grandparents’ camp, allowing the presence of wind, sun, and animals encountered along the way to resonate within the work. Rooted in tradition yet supported by modern techniques, his practice seeks to make visible the vital force that animates the world. His works bear witness to a profound connection between humanity and nature, between memory and material.
