Révolutions by Michel De Broin
Culture, arts and heritage Leisure activities Architecture Outdoor The Village
This sculpture was inspired by the exterior winding staircases of historical residential buildings in many Montréal neighbourhoods. The staircases constitute a major part of the city’s identity. By representing a knot, De Broin’s work deconstructs the symbolism of vertical ascension with which the staircase is usually associated. De Broin’s staircase shows an endless cycle of revolutions, evoking the idea that whatever goes up must come down. Révolutions was added to the public art collection of the City of Montréal in 2003.
