Maison nationale des Patriotes - site de la Prison-des-Patriotes
Culture, arts and heritage Leisure activities Museums Indoor Olympic District and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve
Located on the island of Montréal, La Prison-des-Patriotes is an essential part of local history. A repressive symbol of an unfulfilled desire for emancipation, it stands as a reminder of the Patriots who were incarcerated there between 1837 and 1840 as political prisoners and where 12 of them were hanged for high treason against the British Crown. At the heart of this exceptionally patriotic site, a new permanent exhibition entitled “Between armed resistance and insurrection, Chapter 2,” pays tribute to these 12 prisoners, explaining their conditions during incarceration. Visitors will also discover several patriotic artifacts presented in a unique way.
