Part of the Bonaventure gateway to downtown Montréal, Dendrites, by Michel de Broin, is composed of two climbable structures that are evocative of the shafts of large trees. With its cantilevered branches, the sculpture invites the public to inhabit the landscape. The user's experience of ascension not only evokes flight, but also emphasizes the relationship of scale between the individual and the artwork. The title is taken from the Greek root "dendron" which means “of trees.”
