June festivals and unmissable events

Join the fun of Montréal’s famed summer festival season this month. Throughout the city, car-free pedestrian streets are the place to be for outdoor festivals, dining (keep your eye out for gourmet food trucks, especially at the First Fridays gathering at the Olympic Stadium every first Friday of the month!), shopping and socializing. 

Expect the unexpected at Festival TransAmériques, presenting innovative world-class theatre, dance and performance art on the city’s main stages and outdoors until June 5. At the same time, see even more live performances at the OFFTA festival. Festival Mtl en Arts, meanwhile, will spread its cultural effervescence throughout the Village and beyond throughout the end of June.

On June 5, 10, 17, 19 and into July, head to Parc Lahaie on Boulevard Saint-Laurent corner Laurier Ouest for Musiques sous un arbre, a ridiculously lovely open-air world music concert series, featuring amazing local musicians ranging from Fikret Karakaya to Lu Horta to Josh Dolgin. It happens from 6 to 7 pm, the perfect summery happy hour.

On June 7 and 8, trainspotters and aficionados won’t want to miss the Montréal Model Train Exposition at the Dorval Arena, where you can see over 80 model railroads on display and buy goods from 40+ vendors of new and second-hand materials. 

The 2025 edition of the Conference of Montréal happens from June 9 to 11, when decision makers from all spheres of society gather to address the most pressing issues of our time. 

Looking for a fun and meaningful family outing? Join La Foulée des Parcs on June 15 to explore Outremont's parks while supporting an eco-friendly fundraiser! Enjoy festivities at the start and finish lines. Races for all ages and levels!

Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada

Montréal is off to the races with the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, from June 13 to 15 at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve racetrack, along Peel Street and Crescent Street downtown — plus all the parties, of course. 

See some of the world’s — and Montréal’s — top graffiti artists create new murals before our eyes during MURAL Festival, coupled with block parties and live music along Saint-Laurent Boulevard and beyond from June 5 to 15.

Starting on June 26, Montréal will have even more starry nights thanks to the International des Feux Loto-Québec, an international fireworks festival that lights up the sky from the Six Flags amusement park, La Ronde.

On June 7 and 8, the Planétarium is hosting the fourth edition of AstroFest, a free event for the whole family full of activities, from face painting to workshops, crafting and interactive games. The theme is: the sun! 

French-language music of every genre is on the program day and night during the 2025 Francos de Montréal, in Place des Festivals downtown from June 13 to 21. 

Celebrate the summer weather on KJune 14 and 15 at the Marché Estival put on by Grand Potager, a farmer’s market at 7000 LaSalle Boulevard in Verdun which will include craft tables, tons of produce, seeds and plants, plus locally prepared delights.

The Ikshana Clan Foundation, a nonprofit arts organization in Montréal, is hosting the Summer Solstice Ball on June 21st, 2025 at the Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion in the Jardin botanique. This event celebrates Montréal’s diverse artistic communities with local artists, musicians, and storytellers in an immersive, healing-centered atmosphere, blending performance, tradition, and community connection.

All of Québec celebrates on June 23 and 24 for La Fête nationale du Québec (also known as Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day), a holiday known for live music concerts in the Quartier des spectacles downtown, neighbourhood BBQs and community gatherings in the sun. 

Festival International de Jazz de Montréal

The world-famous Festival International de Jazz de Montréal features nearly 1,000 concerts this year (it’s 45th edition!) by musicians from around the world, on outdoor and indoor stages, with dozens of free events from June 25 and into July.

Meanwhile, electronic dance music takes over Parc Jean-Drapeau every weekend this summer at Piknic Éléctronik. Montréal’s many food festivals happen throughout the year. From June 5 to 8 don’t skip on YATAI MTL at Hangar 1825, a gastronomic festival starring the flavours of Japanese street food. Festival Mondial de la bière (Montreal Beer Fest) takes place from June 20 to 22, offering beer tastings, food pairings, workshops and demonstrations by local microbrews and international favourites. Keep quenching your thirst at the Soif de cidre Montréal festival from June 27 to 29, when you can enjoy sparkling cider and cocktails crafted by mixologists within a festive atmosphere at Hangar 1825 in Little Burgundy.

June sports start off with a bang with the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, from June 13 to 15 at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve racetrack, but it’s also biking time thanks to Go Bike Montréal Festival until June 1, when cyclists of all ages bike together for the Tour de l’Île

Cheer on the CF Montréal soccer team at home at the Saputo Stadium throughout the month. Don't miss Canada’s world-renowned women’s national soccer team will play a friendly against Haiti on June 3 at Stade Saputo.

The Montréal Alliance basketball team at various locations and the Montréal Alouettesfootball team at the Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. If you can’t make the games in person, watch all the soccer, football, basketball, MMA and more at Montréal’s sports bars

The Grand Chelem Baseball Centre, located downtown, invites you to step up to the plate: whether you’re an elite player or a casual hitter, Grand Chelem offers baseball and softball training for all levels and any age. 

Wanna play? Head to the Centre Eaton de Montréal where the PLAYBOX Centre has a game for everyone, from internationally renowned crane games to arcade games, skill games and VR attractions. Super Super at DIX30 in Brossard is another super lively, family-friendly option, while Royalmount has a very fun arcade at The Rec Room, next to the Cineplex cinema, where you can duke it out in VR games and more before munching burgers or nachos (with accompanying cocktails, for parents) at the onsite eateries. Montréal loves exploring the retro side of play with its selection of arcades.

Montréal Bowling is the perfect spot downtown to play a few rounds of bowling, play some pool, watch some sports, play some arcade games and grab some great snacks and cocktails.

Get swinging with a foray into the circus arts (since Montréal is a bona fide capital of circus) at the Montréal Circus Academy, where you can learn flying trapeze, pole fitness, exotic pole dance, aerial silks, aerial hammock, straps, handstands, flexibility and more. 

If you’re feeling more artsy, Art Chaos is a fantastic family- or group-friendly activity in Mile End, where you can paint crazy creations on rapidly spinning canvases, for a truly interactive experience. And while you’re in the neighbourhood, stop into 3 Wizards Shop on Avenue du Parc — it offers an immersive foray into the magical world of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts sagas, with a selection of official products. You can take your quidditch to the next level.

Circus Guinguette - Jardin du Monastère

Savour the glorious summer sunshine with a visit to Montréal’s parks, including the stunning Jardin du Monastère at the Musée des Hospitalières, just at the foot of Mount Royal Park.

At the Espace pour la vie museums, enjoy the Montréal Botanical Garden’s sprawling tropical greenhouse environments or its slowly burgeoning outdoor space. Experience several wild ecosystems at the Biodôme (there are penguins, otters, monkeys and more), explore the mysteries of the universe at the Planétarium, and learn about the thousands of butterflies, moths and other insects at the Insectarium.

The West Island’s Ecomuseum Zoo is a wonderful place to glimpse local wildlife in their natural outdoor habitats — and you can even have breakfast with some of them throughout the month of May.

Among the many free things to do this season, see incredible city views from Mount Royal Park: head for a walk through the park and up the stairs to the lookout or bus or drive up to Beaver Lake. Stroll (or bike) around Parc La Fontaine, go to St-Michel’s Parc Frédéric-Back, or cross the river to Parc Jean-Drapeau for a riverside walk and a different view of the city. While there, visit the Espace pour la vie Biosphère too, for environment-focused exhibitions and more.

Summertime is alive in museums and galleries around town, so get the full low-down in our seasonal exhibition overview. Explore the art of globally acclaimed, Montréal-based artist Jana Sterbak in the admirably curated solo exhibition Corpus Insolite, happing throughout June and beyond at the Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal. Throughout her career, Sterbak has explored power, desire and the fragility of existence in works that often incorporate unconventional materials, so this pairing of her work with objects from the hospital museum’s own collection is particularly prescient and playful. 

At PHI, experience the story of a Quebec filmmaker shaped through music in the exhibition Jean-Marc Vallée: Mixtape, throughout June. With the participation of Marc-André Grondin, Evelyne Brochu, Denis Villeneuve, Reese Witherspoon, Vanessa Paradis, Laura Dern and others, it’s a multimedia journey into the memory and work of the director for whom emotion was a rich territory, lived, felt and expressed through music. While there, also take in Lap-See Lam: Shadow Play and Nico Williams: Bingo.

Visit the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts to enjoy Bad Girls Only this month, an exhibition of rarely seen works from the museum’s collection of early modern prints and drawings showcasing northern European depictions of “sinful” women.

At the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in Place Ville Marie, catch the exhibition Skyscrapers by the Roots, running throughout the month. It explores the long life of late modernism in the field of architecture by bringing together a series of works created over the last decade by Shannon Bool, Kapwani Kiwanga, Rachel Rose and Jonathan Schouela, a new film installation by David Hartt, as well as works by Lynne Cohen and François Dallegret produced in the 1960s and 1970s.

Go to Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal Archaeology and History Complex in Old Montréal to board the good ship D’Iberville to embark on an immersive and interactive seafaring adventure taking place in the days of New France, with their permanent exhibition Come Aboard! Pirates or Privateers? Also on view throughout the month, Building Montréal is a testament to the men and women who shaped the city, from the past to the present. Explore Montréal’s history in this astonishing exhibition that offers a uniquely captivating and engaging experience.

You’ll also be near the kid-friendly Montréal Science Centre, where you can explore interactive exhibitions that investigate the scientific world, like the permanent exhibition Human: a voyage to the very heart of human evolution through a fully interactive and highly energetic environment.

The McCord Stewart Museum bridges past and present in its exhibitions, which throughout the month of June include Pounding the Pavement, a fascinating look at the history of street photography in Montréal. Featuring over 400 photographs, the exhibition explores different facets of the street: as a public arena, a site of protest, an assertion of collective identity, an architectural environment, a setting for local culture, or simply a place where things — sometimes incredible things — happen. On June 13, enjoy a couple of drinks and some dance music as you Reclaim the Street, starting at 5 pm.

Visit MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises, a cutting-edge museum dedicated to the voices of Montrealers presiding over the corner of Boulevard Saint-Laurent and Rue Sainte-Catherine. 

Jardin du Gouverneur - Château Ramezay -Historic site and museum of Montréal

Travel back in time as you tour the rooms of Château Ramezay and visit historical site Château Dufresne near the Olympic Stadium. The Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal marks the bicentennial of Mount Royal Park’s creator, architect Frederick Law Olmsted with the exhibition Our Mountain: Memories of Mount Royal

Not far from the city, climb aboard railway cars, learn about the history of the railroad and explore miniature railways at the Exporail the Canadian Railway Museum.

Discover the vivid history and present of Québec ceramics at the Musée des métiers d’arts du Québec. And for another slice of Québec history, visit Montréal’s stunning churches and sacred sites.

Experience a massive immersive art experience in surround-sound and laser light at OASIS Immersion, where Weightlessness will lift you up and give you a unique and transportive sensory refuge. You can also dive headfirst into the work of Van Gogh or see Root for Nature, which extrapolates on biodiversity in all its splendour.

Montréal’s cultural calendar is packed this season, with entertainment for everyone on the city’s many stages. Among the world-class theatre, dance, opera, circus and more gracing the city’s stages throughout June, you’ll find the last bit of Festival TransAmériques, presenting innovative world-class theatre, dance and performance art on the city’s main stages and outdoors until June 5, and OFFTA, too, until June 1.

ABBA lovers, get ready: there’s an ABBA Celebration at Espace Saint-Denis throughout the month! This dinner-and-a-show extravaganza features 13 talented musicians and dancers in a venue that you’ll see transform into a giant disco ball, as legendary hits sound one after the other. 

More glamorous music and celebration awaits at Centaur Theatre, where on June 18 you can take part in an evening of theatrical enchantment inspired by the bohemian opulence of Moulin Rouge as you help raise funds for the theatre. The Centaur Spectacular includes cocktails, food stations and endless entertainment.

From June 8 to 29 at Segal CentreClue: On Stage is a comedic romp featuring murder and blackmail at Boddy Manor, all based on the cult classic 1985 film and inspired by the iconic Hasbro boardgame.

In dance, expect Latin heat from the Grands Ballets from end of May until June 7, at the Place des Arts’ Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, when they present Don Quixote: a flamboyant two-act ballet adapted by the Cuban choreographer Marina Villanueva.

Hear the Orchestre Métropolitain's Adventure Awaits on June 15, an emotionally punchy musical journey and our last chance to see them in their hometown of Montréal before they head off on a European tour spanning Brussels, Paris and Vienna from June 23 to June 29.

Montréal Science Centre - T. REX 3D: Greatest of all Tyrants

REX 3D: Greatest of all Tyrants throughout June, where you can discover the most gripping and scientifically accurate portrait ever made of this titan and its formidable carnivorous cousins.

At Place des Arts this month, classical music shines throughout June with events like the grand opening of the Montréal Chamber Music Festival’s 30th anniversary edition, as well as concerts ranging from the Janoska Ensemble to an adventurous musical mix courtesy of the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal

June 13 heats up with a live music night featuring Moncton’s electro-bass sensation Jalapeño Papa at Espace Libre. Get ready to dance, laugh and feel the feels!

On June 21 at Salle Bourgie, don’t miss Celebration of Indigenous Traditions and Folklore, a special program showcasing acclaimed soprano Élisabeth St-Gelais and violinist Tara-Louise Montour, along with a world premiere commission by composer Andrew Balfour.

Jazz lovers, check out Kid Koala’s The Storyville Mosquito from June 26 to 29 at Cinquième Salle. On June 28, listen to the dulcet tones of Samara Jones at Maison Symphonique, while on June 29, Grammy winer Dianne Reeves will lend her pipes to brilliant jazz guitarist Romero Lubambo at Théâtre Maisonneuve.

The 45th anniversary of the Montréal International Jazz Festival has all sorts of gold up its sleeve, part of it being Jay-Jay Johanson at Théâtre Maisonneuve (June 28), Nas with the Symphony Orchestra (June 29) at Salle Wilfrid-PelletierJeff Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra (on June 30) at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, and Nate Smith featuring Lalah Hathaway and Derrick Hodge (also June 30) at Théâtre Jean-Duceppe.

At the Bell Centre this month, catch GIMS  as part of the Francos de Montréal music festival on June 13 and Simple Minds plays on June 17.

The world’s best EDM artists come to New City Gas to get you moving, which in June includes G-EAZY with Murda Beatz and Toddy Flores on June 13, Don Diablo with Surf Mesa and Stef Agostino on June 14, and Claptone with Walker & Royce and Paskal Daze on June 15.

At the SAT from June 6 to 25, don’t miss the Dômesicle Summer 2025 event, a series of awesome music and immersive art performances taking place in the magical dome-shaped space on their roof. On June 10 you’ll find an immersive artistic experience making homage to the sorely missed Québec painter Jacques Hurtubise, while on June 18 it’s a concert by Theodora. On June 19 it’s Odezenne and on June 22, get rolling: it’s a roller-dance at the SAT thanks to Skate with Marly! Lace your skates and join in the fun.

Groove to live soul, disco, jazz, funk, salsa, Cuban music Fridays and more at Le Balcon, where you can have dinner with a show, go dancing, and enjoy a gospel brunch on weekends. 

Hear live jazz nightly at Montréal’s amazing jazz and blues clubs, like Diese Onze and Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill. And go out dancing late into the night at Montréal’s dance clubs.

Indie venues Casa del Popolo and Sala Rossa have chock-a-block full monthly programs featuring both local and visiting bands, which you can find here. Look here for the many live events at hole-in-the-wall Barfly. Same for Bar Le Ritz PDB, where there’s a show nearly every night. Explore the lineups at Le Ministère and Turbo Haüs, and follow L’Escogriffe on Facebook to stay on top of all their upcoming shows. L’Hémisphère Gauche, up in Little Italy, is packed with music lovers for their nightly shows, as is Quai des Brumes on the Plateau — it never takes a night off.
